BY INVITATION ….. FLOWERS and FASHION ……….

Our By Invitation subject this month is Flowers and Fashion …..
Flower Power is back and, sad to say, I was in my late teens / early twenties when it made it's first appearance !!

I was a mod and spent hours in Biba and went down the Twiggy route rather than the hippy, flowery one.

….. but, even Biba entered into the flowery spirit of it all with  strong pigmented make up with flowery names …..

….. and subtle, ditzy florals in dark browns, burgundys and purples.

For a more Edwardian, feminine look, there was Laura Ashley. You could match your dress to your sofa, to your curtains to your wallpaper if you wanted to !!!!!

….. and now, in 2015, it's all back again.

Not being the biggest fan of florals when it came in in the 1970's, I don't think that I'll be buying into it this time.

I'll stick to reading about flowers …..

picking them …..

….. and growing them !!

I am paying homage to the florals by wearing my new perfume, Maison Martin Margiela Replica Flower Market ….. it really does smell like a flower shop !

Were you wearing florals the first time round { I bet some of you men out there had some flowery trousers !! } and will you be wearing it again this year ?

For more flowery frippery, the other By Invitation contributors will be putting their own take on it so, as usual, Marsha has all of the links.

A Little Bit of Dutch Blue

Welcome!

It is Tea Time again and today's tea was
inspired by a lovely calender I received
from my fellow tea friend Bernideen .

You can see a little bit of Dutch here
with the Dutch calender in the background.

Tulips and roses on the windowsill.
I love all the dutch inspired photos on
the calender and it brings back memories
of my sweet Dutch Mama. Thank you
                                                 Bernideen......I will treasure it!

Sit for awhile and enjoy a cup of tea
as the sunroom is a lovely spot to be on
these sunny late winter days.In here you
can even feel a little spring.
                                                             A mix of china.
I had to show you another recent thrift
find....isn't it irresistible?

Hope you have a good week.......I think
there is a hint of spring in the air and it
is nice to see a little bit of melting going on
                                                          here.

I am joining Rose Chintz Cottage,

The Charm of Flowers

           Happy weekend!

We are enjoying lots of sunshine here and when
we change our clocks ahead tonight our evenings
will be  that much longer......Spring is on the way!

I am sending you a few bouquets
for you to enjoy.

This time of the year bouquets
of tulips always brighten my day.
I am looking forward to being
able to go out and pick daffodils
from the garden again some time
in May here on the Island.

A bouquet of stocks in a pretty
                                                            chocolate pot.

  Lilacs from the garden.

Lilacs and peonies are two of my
favorite flowers.

A little bouquet from the summer garden
hangs on the doorknob in the boathouse.

Love these little boots filled with
phlox and hydrangeas on an old door
in the garden.

Of course, I love roses in all colors
picked fresh from the garden.

A few late summer bouquets in the terrace ~
the cheerful tablecloth is an April Cornell.

Hydrangeas and vintage china make a pretty
 vignette.

If, you are suffering from winter doldrums I  hope
these bouquets will bring you some cheer.

Enjoy your weekend!

Carolyn

My Cupboard of Brown & White Transferware

It was a cold but sunny winter day here
and I am doing some spring cleaning. It  be
a bit early but when spring arrives I want to
able to get out to the garden.

So as I was dusting I thought maybe
you would enjoy a peek inside this
old cupboard full of brown transferware.

This cupboard is in our living room,

Love this old platter and soup tureen.

So, after all that cleaning it
is time for a tea break.
And, I wanted to show off my new
                                                          brown and white transferware teapot.

                                                        Romantic England ~ Royal Stratfordshire

different pieces I had never run across a
teapot before so I couldn't leave it behind.
                                                                   Mix and match.

I hear there is more snow coming tomorrow.....at
this rate I have lots of time for my spring cleaning
as it may be June before it all melts!!! Oh,well at
least it is warm and sunny indoors.

I am joining Sandi at Rose Chintz Cottage

ARE YOU BENDY ?!! ……….

I like to think that, at the age of 64 { …. only just 64 !! } I'm still quite bendy !

The other night, at a friend's house, we were remembering how we used to jump up off of the floor, without a thought.

We then idly wondered if we could still do it ….. our friend's husband tried but couldn't do it { ….. and he is one of the fittest men we know, who cycles a zillion miles every weekend ! } My husband didn't even give it a go …… our friend's wife tried and ….. she did it !
Well, that meant that I HAD to do it.  I placed my feet right behind me as my friend had done and started to push up when ….. POP ….. something snapped behind my knee !!!! There was a great deal of pain and much ' you should have warmed up first ' being mumbled !
Obviously, if I'd warmed up first and I hadn't torn something, I would have done it !!!!

Can you get off of the floor without using your hands or knees ? ….. and …..

BE WARNED !!

WARM UP FIRST !!
